In her Rowlett practice, Dr. Smith offers relief from heel pain, ingrown toenails, bunions, hammertoes, and nerve problems, as well as diabetic foot care, just to name a few.

Dr. Smith's emphasis is on conservative treatment.

"We resort to surgery only if needed," Dr. Smith says, adding that today's surgical techniques and recovery procedures are much less disabling than they were in years past.

"Some procedures respond to minimally invasive surgery," she says, which requires shorter recovery time.

A sizable portion of Dr. smith's practice is dedicated to patients suffering from diabetes. In cases where the disease has progressed to the point where sensation and circulation have been reduced in the lower leg and feet, Dr. Smith is able to offer palliative care (relieving or soothing the symptoms of a disease or disorder without effecting a cure).

"One of the most rewarding aspects of my practice is being able to help diabetics. The prospect of losing a toe or foot from poor circulation associated with diabetes can be devastating. Early intervention and proactive care is the key with diabetic patients. We can keep the patient from having to have a foot amputated and we work in conjunction with the patient's primary care or other diabetic care physician to correct problems that arise as a result of diabetes," she says.
